I have a V7 PS2. I got it used and the person that sold it to me said i can play any type of file (ive tested with dvd-rips, real ps2 games, ps1 burned/unburned games, DVD-rs,DVD movies, all seem to work fine when theyre in NTSC).

I dont have to swap cds or anything. however, I do use different boot methods. for dvd-rips i simply reset and i think the same goes for real ps2 games. for burned ps1 games i hav to hold onto the rest button from sleep until the SCEA thing comes up. Also i think the guy said he used 22 or 27 wires (something around that).

Im guessing the modchip might be a messiah 2 maybe. I hope i get to use the harddrive.

    Any help appreciated.

EDIT: Oh yea and PS2reality media works perfectly on mine just so you know, ive heard some mods cant support it.

It I am not mistaken the DMS3 is only one that is compatible with the HDD. The chip you discribe is anything but the DMS3.

The booting procedure for a PSX game on a Messiah 2 Pro upto v1.30 at least is to press and hold the RESET button until the blue eject light comes on, holding it longer will disable the Messiah and not boot any backups whatsoever. So unless the newer Messiahs require a different booting procedure, I doubt that what you have is a Messiah 2.

It just might be the magic 2 or 3, thanx. would it help if i said i got it around January 2003.

so will i be able to play with the harddrive? In the newz section it says "The way to get around this is to install your HDD drivers, while your CHIP is in SLEEP mode, which will let the HDD drivers install fine! "

BTW, by sleep i meant holding onto the reset button until the light goes red on the reset button. sorry if it confused anyone.

    It might be almost anything.
A picture will help a lot in this case

At least a short description of the chip if you cannot make a picture.

Really there is NO way of knowing what the chip is unless we see what is is. But if you don't feel comfortable opening your PS2 I wouldn't. Try to find someone willing to do it for you. By no means are we asking you to do something you do not feel you can do.

Indeed, like Law said don't open it if you do not feel to do so.

Look for someone experienced to open it, get a picture of the chip and in 5 minutes we will tell you what you have inside

    Regards,
