can all ps2 modchip?

im wondering if all ps2's can get a modchip. im asking becuase i gave it to a guy to do and he said that something was wrong with the laser. BUT i can play original games so i dont think anything is wrong with the laser, i have a v4 if anyone could help thanks.

all ps2's out there can be chipped as far as i know

The laser probably need to be cleaned. Usually old systems like a v4 need a clean laser to read DVD-Rs.

but if i can play dvd-r movies do you think it still needs to be cleaned? and how do you clean it if so?

I had a customer with a V4 and an old laser. I took it out for cleaning and everything is working great again. What I did was a total clean. Top and bottom lense and blew all the dust inside that laser out. It reads great now.

do you think i need cleaning on my laser so that it will play backup games even though it can read dvd-r movie backups?

If it can play DVD-R backup movies then it should be fine.
