Buying a PS2

I'm new to this forum, think it's gr8 tho. My question is simple:
I want to buy a PS2 and get it chipped. However what is my best bet or even the best value/convience route?

Should I:
1. Buy a PS2 in Argos for £168 + free mem card (think this is their deal) and then chip it myself?
2. Do the above but get someone else to chip it for me (not much good at soldering and don't know who'd do it - I'm from Belfast).
3. Purchase a pre-chipped one on-line (If so where from?)


Also which version PS2 is best to go for...which chip is best to buy? Note: Reason I'm getting a PS2 is cos my mates is giving me 40 copied games {which I will of course buy the originals for beforehand ;-) ;-) } and also so that I can watch DVD's on the beast.

Unless you have very good soldering skills, don't even attempt it. The cheapest route (save on shipping to modder) would be to get a premodded ps2, It looks like you may be in the UK, I'm in the US so not really up on the UK modders but PM Charlie ps2 as he can surely hook you up himself or tell you who can
The messiah2 is the best chip but costs more, the new magic 3.1 is cheaper as long as it has dvd9 support its okay....

And you BETTER buy those 40 originals first

the best chips to get are either the Magic 3.1 or Messiah 2.

premod is the way to go, to save a lot of trouble. finding a cheap reliable installer, getting the system, getting the mod, putting them all in the same place etc... pain in the ass.

as ps347 said.....you better buy those 40 originals!
