Is it illegal to buy a modchip in the US? I already bought some from Gamegizmo.com and thought about ordering some more for friends. Gamegizmo is located in Michigan & NY.

Arrrrrrrr, It is totally legal to buy and install modchips in the US. It is ILLEGAL to sell copied versions of copy righted material (games, movies, etc) It is ILLEGAL ta own copies of materials you do not legally own. I hopes that answers yer questions.

BTW - gamegizmo's prices are pretty steep, compared to the competitors. $80 for a Messiah2 is outrageous, you can get it for around $50 if you look around, and cheaper if you buy in bulk. $45 for Magic3.1, when it usually goes for $30 or cheaper. Look around the Buy/Sell/Trade forum for realistic prices.

That is unfortunately true. The modchip can be interpreted as a device that promotes the illegal act of piracy, thus violating the DMCA. However, I don't think sony will go after you. They will probably go after the seller with a court order to stop them from selling that particular product.
