Is there any way to burn PS2 games onto a Hard Drive installed in the PS2? I heard there is a way but I don't know if it is true. Please only post if you are in knowledge on the modding scene. I have a modded xbox and I burn games but I want to know if you can do that with the Playstation 2. Thanks !

Nope. You would have to change every command that loads from the CD to load from the HDD. XBox is much easier to program for this because it is x86 based just like a PC. The DMS3 modchip has a new mode that loads HOMEBREW apps ONLY off the HDD, such as the Genesis emulator PGen. New PS2 Gaming HDD's are coming out soon that load commercial games off the HDD, but they are MagicGate encrypted (just like the stuff on your memory card) so you won't be able to load non-licensed backup games on it. Also, I've heard if you plug the PS2 Beta Gaming HDD into a PC, it trips off part of the PS2 partition and when you plug it back into the PS2, it asks you to reformat it because it knows its been tampered with. So, in a long answer, no, and it doesn't look that way for a while, having a proprietary MIPS based console opposed to XBox's PC-in-a-console design gives Sony the upperhand on some things.

So every one on this board that has a modded ps2, and wants to backup his/her games, goes out, buys an expensive dvd burner, buys expensive dvd's, and burns games to a DVD to play on their ps2?

..............YUP. Unless you want DVD-RIPS (which hurt your laser and don't have all the game on it). U X-Box people need to learn the meaning of cheaper DVD-R media. There are places where you can find a burner for 100-150. There are also places where you can find DVD-R for good prices. It is still by far cheaper than buying another original for backup

First off, you still need to buy the real thing to back it up. Thats why it is called "back up". So that doesn't make any sense. Second off, where can you get a dvd burner and cheap dvd-r's? Also, now that I think of it, you are a pirate aren't you? You copy games without legally owning them!

How does it make you any less of a pirate to do the same thing but onto a hard drive instead?

Look man, don't smack the hand that feeds you the information. I am just being straightforward with you, there is no such thing as HDD game copying....yet, once the PS2 File System is figured out we may see it. Besides, I mentioned nothing about NOT owning the original (notice in my other post I mentioned ANOTHER original, meaning owning 2 originals games with 1 as a backup), so quit trying to be the lil' bitch.

what the hell, burning a dvd image doesnt make you any more of a pirate than copying the image to a hard drive in a console. wtf...

and dvd burners arent "expensive" anymore either. i could go to the store and get a 4x dual format burner right now for less than $100 USD, and you can buy media online for $1 each. the only way that's "expensive" is if you dont have a job.

    trumpet:

i dont think the guy was meaning anything negative from what i read of his posts.

    prisoner:

its not the initial costs of the items you need to backup or pirate, whatever the hell a person wants to do. its the total cost associated with every item with your goal in mind. here let me give you an example (excludes taxes, shipping fees)

    PS2: 179
    Modchip: 40-60 (depending on brand)
    dvdr burner: 100-150
blanks: 25-50 each spindle (depends on amount)
install (if you cant do it yourself) 50-60

    total estimated (lowest possible) costs
    $394.00

including install because you know as well as i do most people cant do thier soldering job for the ps2 by themselves. as you can see if you imagine taxes w/ shipping fees, this really does get expensive. i could go out and with an estimated 4-500 dollars that you spend w/ a ps2, i could upgrade my computer to the latest mobo + cpu, latest accessories, play pirate/backup games/movies/music or whatever. and also im talking usd so it may be more expensive to other people overseas.

this is why we have swap magic/flip top/slide card folks, because using those solutions shave off a significant amount of $. of course theres a tradeoff for the cheaper price, you get more trouble then you need...

sure, if you only ever use the dvd burner for burning ps2 games and absolutely nothing else, ever, then you can add it to the cost of playing backups. but since almost no one ever does just that, it isnt part of the cost of playing backups.

and guess what? a hard drive that ends up in the ps2, only to be used in the ps2, is gonna cost $100 anyway.

theres no savings involved there. and as far as media is concerned, GET A JOB. christ, dvdr media is a DOLLAR. if you cant afford ONE DOLLAR in the place of fifty dollars for a new ps2 game, you need a damn job.
