Broken fan solder
I'm new at installing chips, and I have a V4 with a DMS3 chip and am getting a black screen. When taking the PS2 apart, I accidently broke off the fan wire that was soldered to the board. could that be the causing the black screen? The eject button also won't aluminate anymore. Just the power. Also when soldering the pins I got some solder on the other pins which I tryed to clean out, not sure if that is all perfect. And lastly, does magneticly shielded wire work well with this kind of instulation.
The fan beeing out wouldnt be the cause. But to fix it, just splic the wires together and add solder to hold it, insulate with electrical tape.
I would gather that the solder on the other pins may be causing you the trouble. Check to make sure they are not shorted, use a multimeter if you can get one, they are cheap at radioshack for crappy ones, but thats all you need for basicaly a short no short purpose. You can use desoldering braid to easily suck up any excess solder.
