  1. #1 booting games off a hdd?
    sebr0ck Guest
I'm getting disc read errors all the time and my local ps2 shop tells me that they wont repair it since it's too old and that I should buy a new one.
If I move my games on to a hdd and boot them from there I wouldn't get any dre's. Is it possible? Either via a network to my computer or by inserting a hdd into the ps2..

Well, you can't boot copied PS2 games from the HDD like on the XBOX... That's really about all I can tell you.

Will its gonna be possible (because SOOOO many people want it)

This is a quote from the DMS3 forums:
We're pleased to announce the release of HDD Explorer! HDD Explorer is an application that allows you to boot homebrew software from a hard disc drive(HDD) installed in your PS2. It will work with either "official" Sony HDDs or unofficial(ie "normal") HDDs. You WILL need the HDD to be a newer make(ie don't try to put a HDD that's 8 years old in it) and recommended to be atleast 40 gigabytes.
So thats the good news! The bad news (I fear) is this quote:
HDD Explorer will NOT work with SCPH 10000, SCPH 15000 or SCPH 18000 models, due to the difference in hardware with those models.
If you want to read the HD thread (It's 11 pages long)

If you have a vesion 1-3, then you Ps2 shop might be right
it's too old and that I should buy a new one.
Also even if you can boot straight from the HD, you will have to FTP into the Ps2. Which could equal even more problems.

    Good luck, and Good Gaming

it is another thing running small apps and running disk-images.... xbox (AFAIK) does this but it also has an OS to hijack, similar to win32..... I do not know whether ps2 will ever do that.... (but I hope someone finds a way)

Ahem DMS is full of shit. In order to run games off the HDD you would have to re-write almost the entire game to poll the HDD instead of the DVD rom. If you really wanna do it be my guest sounds like a couple months of misery.

one could always try to write a dvd-rom emulator ala daemon tools.. i think this method would at least make it possible to get game images to boot off the hdd..

Could you put the files from homebrew software (like emulators and stuff) onto a USB External Hard Drive (its new), then put it into the PS2 and load it, how exactly would you go about doing that?
