Boot method: Distinguishing between Messiah 2 and Magic 3.x

How do I distinguish whether the chip inside the PS2 is either Messiah 2 or Magic 3.x without opening the cover and looking inside.

tap reset, go into browser, put a ps2 disc in and see if it shows a disc, if it does, it's messiah 2, if not, magic 3/3.1.

if only these possibilities are available, then follow:
turn ur ps2 on. press eject to open disc tray. put in the disc(friendly), then press eject to close, not reset. if it boots from there, it's a messiah2.
