Blown laser coils amd LA6508 - Couple of questions
Blown laser coils amd LA6508 - Couple of questions –
02-28-2005,12:34 PM
I have a v10 with MI fitted and romeo mod, I can access MI configuration screen and dissable the chip, when first fitted, it worked fine, now all games/media disk spins, black screen, eventually get to browser, says "No data" Measured cols and tracking is 1.7 ohms, focus 4.8 ohms (HD7 laser).
Questions;
1. Do I need a new laser as tracking measures only 1.7 ohm
2. Do I need to replace LA6508, or is there a way to check (cant find mention of any test anywhere)
3. Will I f*** a new laser if I dont replace LA and it is faulty
Tired, so very tired

yip - the 2.7 is too low.
If youve done the romeo the LA should be ok. there's no real way to test it other than replacing it. Does the tray eject and sled move up and down?
It should be ok to replace just the laser provided the la is done. if it still doesnt work i'd replace the la as well. wont hurt to check all the fuses as well

isent there a way we could add some more ohm's to a coil? cant we just add a resistor somewhere on the laser to add some ohms. how can it be that there can be this diffrence on coils? isent they produced the same?

nope - fraid you cant just puit a resistor in series. the problem is with the actual resistance of the coil - it most likely needs to be rewound.

hmm okay to bad!
well it must be robots that makes the coils so dont understand the big fauilty, but maybe when they are burned in the oven in production.

Did you measure the coils before you modded? This is very important, as I found many V9/10 systems that had bad coils (<4.5ohm) right from the factory. They would probably work fine for a while with originals, but chipping it increases chances for laser failure.
