Black Screen w/Magic 3.1 Any Help?
Black Screen w/Magic 3.1 Any Help? –
I installed a Magic 3.1 about 3 weeks ago and it has worked great ever since...until yesterday. I have a DVD-R of GTA:Vice City and played yesterday for about 2 hours. I went to play it last night and it didn't boot on first attempt, instead it just went to browser. I put it back in standby, hit reset, and the screen flickered a couple times, and stayed black. I waited an hour, then 2 then 10, still nothing. All lights work fine....Tray ejects normally, I can here the CD spinning at the start of the boot process, can't figure it out.
The machine is a V 5/6, don't know for sure which. 30001 R w/recessed screw in the expansion slot area....don't know if that helps identify the version....if that matters at all. I opened it tonight and no wires have popped off, everything seems good as far as I can tell.
Well after all this...can anyone make any sense of this and give me a hand?
Same thing happended to me. Chip went dead. Installed a Messiah2 and all is well. Probably not what you want to hear, but sometimes it's best to move on.
I would unsolder all the wires at the magic chip and insulate them. Then reassemble and see if PS2 boots normally, this is the quickest way I know to eliminate bad install/faulty chip. If console boots, then double check all wiring for shorts (esp. bios) and check for continuity between pins on bios for shorting. When happy with your wiring on the console, resolder to the Magic. If still black screening after reinstall, check continuity between pad on magic and the point on the PS2. If wiring checks out 100% I would then swap chip. From a personal point of view you can waste hours trying to find a 'suspect' connection with the chip installed, try and get it working without chip installed first.
