Black screen on V13 after mod chip install
Black screen on V13 after mod chip install –
I installed the a mod chip in my V13 which is brand new (Both the mod chip and the PS2). All I get is a black screen when I turn it on. I have checked and rechecked all connections and they are fine. If I remove the mod chip but leave the wires attached to the motherboard, the PS2 comes up fine. I am thinking the mod chip may be bad. I tried this mod chip in a V12 and it does the same thing.
This is not the first mod chip I have installed so I have experience doing it, but not on V12/13. Thanks.
Well to me that sounds pretty simple, replace the modchip, the only other thing is that you may have connections crossed or shorted, but you said you checked for this...

This is what ive found out. (using Magic s+ modchip)
The awg30 wires i used with all other chips on other models didnt work very good on v12 and magic s+. I rewired the dvd points with thicker awg and works.
Ive also bought some very expensive awg30 wire, and after i switched to this wire i never got a black screen again.
This is a good way to check. Try to start the PS2 when mod is attached. OK, if you get black screen. Turn off. Now, turn on the console and try disable chip, does it work now?
In all my black screen cases there has been none faulty chips.
Ive tried 4 installs with my cheap awg30, all went to black screen. After i rewired the chip with diffrent kynar it worked. Ofcourse , this could have something to do with my wiring, but it depends on chip how much crossing and stuff u can have before it dont work.
If possible, I would try using a little thicker wire on the dvd points, (A,B,G,H,I on most chips)
I dunno if this is a good tip, but it worked for me, and i have never black screen no more.
Well, the mod chip is a DMS4 Lite, but I did not want to say that because for some reason it is not supported on this site. I tried to find out why you guys don't support it, but I could not find any information. I really doubt it is the wire I am using. The wire is as short as possible. Anyone else had problems with 30awg wire and v12/13?
There is a own DMS4 section here now, and Brakken has the same problem.
My awg30 works on every console, except on v12 and dvd points.
Have u tried the dms forums?
DMS Forums suck. I replaced it with a Matrix and it works perfectly. I will put the DMS4 in a friends older PS2 (v7). I have had good luck with them in the older PS2s. This will be the last DMS chip I buy. The Matrix chip is so much better.
