I was doing my first ever install on my UK v7 PS2 with a matrix MXL2, and i ****ed up the soldering on the SCEX point. Basically, i unstuck one of the surface mount resistors from the board. By very careful soldering I put it back, and then tested the PS2. It still works and boots games OK, but I don't want to try anything more on that SCEX point in case the damn thing comes unstuck again. Are there any other places I can solder the SCEX wire on a V7?

Which one is screwed? The little black resistor on the right, or the bigger tan one on the left?

I ask, because the inside contact points of either will do. In fact, I usually just bridge the gap between the two resistors, and solder to that. Since they're in line, either (or both) will do.

It's the small black one that came off. The big tan one seems fine, but I can't see if they're connected or not.

also, which one is the CDX chip?

Like Loy said, put it on the chip. It is the big chip that is next to the points you are talking about. There is a little trace that goes from those resistors to the corner point on the chip. It is the one corner that is closest to the resistors.

    Good luck.

if you continue to have problems.. dont kill the ps2.. the scex point is only needed to play ps1 games.. you dont have to connect it.

so the scex is only for ps1 games? thanks for the advice
as I don't have any PS1 games i'll try and finish the install without the scex pin tomorrow and see if it works.
