I've done quite a bit of reading today, going through many threads on here, but it always seems that the discussions are many steps ahead of where I am.
My needs are simple, be able to play backups, both domestic and import. I also have an xbox, so I'm not interested in getting into the ps2 HDD any. or any homebrew software
My other question that I havent seem to find much about is concerning online play. I would assume that you can't play backups online (but please correct me if I'm wrong). My concern is with playing originals online with a mod-chip installed. Have ps2 games evolved to detecting mod chips when you go on line with them? I know that a hard-wired switch is the popluar way to go on an xbox, totally shutting off the mod-chip when you want to play an original copy online.
I'm not gonna bother asking the age old question of "which chip is best" but I would like to ask where to start. I know many of the recommended chips tend to be more high-end. I see many people recommending the matrix or the dms3, but I went to their respective sites and it seems that they're more than I need, with many memory card and hard drive features that I'm not looking for.
Thanks in advance for any opinions
