Hello,
I am looking for a chip that is the easiest to install / use for my fat V7 USA PS2. I want to be able to play PS1 backups/imports WITHOUT any slide cards or anything like that. I would also not be opposed to using a boot disc however after reading, it seems many of them like the gameshark lite, I would still need a slide card which I do not want. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Im pretty sure you can still find a boot disc called breaker pro you should be able to google it.
the best way to do ps1 backups on a ps2 without swapping is to install a mod chip. everything else requires swapping of some sorts.
I don't mind the swap of a boot disc but no slide card stuff. Anywho what chip would you suggest?
look around for an old chip called either "s-box", or "neo-key" (same thing). these require only one jumper wire be soldered in (and a cap removed, if I recall, I did a few in the day), and otherwise they plugged in the usb port. PS1 only, but no swapping or anything, its a real modchip, in that sense, and they worked. Bonus, they shouldnt be more than $10.
btw: bootdisc ALWAYS means a slidecard, or some other swap trick. However there were and are still "swap-chips" for these for dirt cheap that plug in between the switch and tray control ribbons and their sockets that do the "slide card" thing, just by holding down the eject button same like you do the power button to shut down, as opposed to a reset, 3 seconds, or something. tray opens for 10 seconds or so then shuts itself, it still a swaptrick, but its automated, and any trained monkey can install one.
