Best current mod chip ?

Hi, i've been trying to no avail to find a good comparison of ps2 modchips currently available, so here I am asking the obvious question:

What is the best one on the market today, and why? (excluding softmod methods, I'm familiar with all the choices)

I am currently shopping for one, so I would greatly appreciate to get detailed and knowledgeable answers if possible with some specs as well (along the lines of "this is the best/good for imports, rather than "X is best, i have it") :)

A mod chip really is unneeded anymore unless you really want to play ps1 backups and or have a SCPH-900xx (xx represents region code which is 00 - 12) that has a date code of 8c or newer.

I have the SCPH-50001 model. Why do you say it's unneeded, because of softmod methods?

basically. FMCB with ESR allow play of backups with ease. One advantage, if your console completely craps out, you only have to move your MC to another console of the same magicgate region.

Exactly, there is so much you can do with FMCB, ESR, OPL (Open PS2 loader ), ULaunch.... Do some search's here and you'll read just how good they are.

the only real disadvantage/drawback of having a chip installed is that the lifespan of laser decreases. voltage & laser diode modifications have to be applied as well in order to add an extra period of prolongation. this problem is quite particular with the v12 slim (perhaps with v9-10 too). the solderless chips are especially infamous for quickly frying a console.

i think that installing a chip is a fun project. nonetheless, softmods are safer and perpaps a lot more versatile to use. we have a good number of game loaders to pick from (esr, hdl, openPS2loader, ect).

Thanks for the info, guys. 2 days ago I was positive on making the chip choice, but I had no clue there were such drawbacks associated with them. What would be the cheapest and easiest path to have FMCB installed on the memory card? Swap Magic I presume? Appreciate it.

I have not swapped discs in my PS2 tray since the release of HDLoader, here is my procedure

• Buy game at play.com
• Rip disc on laptop
• inject image through LAN
• Put cover in bookshelf
• Launch HDLoader

It isnt the easiest way to have hdloader(and other apps on MC:)
@jonelsorel I dont know where are you from but u could always ask someone(even through forum) to install it for you - it will only cost You as much as 2xenvelopes and 2xstamps:)

you can have one of our awesome fmcb installers set up fmcb for you,

go to 1st page of the thread to find an installer that is closer to you and then pm the user for a request. the fmcb installing program is free of charge but you'll just need to pay 2 way postage and a couple bubble envelopes. piece of cake dude;)
