best chip for v3 ps2

for the v3 ps2 what is the best chip, and also is it necessary to change the laser if i want to play copied games?

Best chip for any system is the dms3, but if your going to install the chip yourself i would go with a Duo chip, as it only has 17 wires.

I'm only repeating what I've heard and read, as I've only done one install (and I'm i the middle of that one). So take everything I say with a grain of salt.

What I've heard from reliable sources is that the DMS3 is the easiest on lasers, which seems important considering the documented crappiness of the v3 lasers. On the other hand, it has a comparitively large amount of connections.

I'm currently installing an MXL2-USA. Apparently it's one of the easier chips to install, along with the DUO as they are both <20 connections and only 2 connections that are extremely difficult and 4/5 of medium difficulty. If you look at some of the install pictures in this Forum, you will see the complexity of other chips that have >20 or 30 connections.

Unfortunately for you the v3 is one of the most difficult installs for two reasons...

a) Mobo forces you to solder to legs of chips
b) Laser adjustment possibility

I can attest to this somewhat as mine is a v3. I've looked at other mobos and install pics and I have to agree they look 2x easier.

Chips with sleep modes are supposed to be easier on the mechanisms as they shut-down (sleep) once they've booted the game. Keep this in mind as well.

Its kew the install is no problem, i hope, as i can solder pretty good, ive soldered many ps2s (all of v5-v7,8). The ps2 isnt mine so I want to be able to give it back and not have to touch it ever again, im gonna go with the mxl2 chip as its easy and seems to have alot of functions, I can do the dms3 no problem but I hate cross talks and since the chip is in a certain position the wires are very long and there is a large possiblility of cross talks. My only consern is the laser itself, johnsant tell me what happens with your ps2, and if anyone knows lasers good please give me a heads up on what to do.
