BA chips and fuses question
BA chips and fuses question –
Can the BAxx chips get fried, without any fuses being blown first?
As I've explained in countless threads YES. The BA58 in particular runs at 12v. If the lens is continually focussing for any reason, serious power is drawn.
if the heat doesn't dissipate adequately, that chip will go. There is a heat conducting pad on the BA58 which must make contact with the metal cage to dissipate the heat.
Samebut less so for the BA66.
how about buying replacments ???
the ONLY, BA chip ive found for sale is the BA5815FM ..
cant seem to find a BA6664FM
(which is more models ! lol .. )
I doubt that the BA66 has gone. Does the spindle rotyate when the PS2 is switched on>?
yeah.. it gives a few quick flick .. like 1/4 of a turn if disc is in ..
its mainly the 'sled' optic movement thats not and the tray ..
but then the P14 (the one under the board) fuse keeps blowing
so its hard to really define if it is that
not sure how to find out whats making the fuse blow ..
thanks Mick ..
as explained before gadget its a problem with you install of the ba chip that is causing the problem the fuse blows because of this chip if you have a browser screen it indicates the ba chip is fine if its blowing fuses it has been installed correctly or has a short on it somewhere one thing i have noticed charlie on the new v7s kicking about some dont have a full heat pad on them they are 1/4 the normal size this could be causing these ba's to go down because of unreliable heat transfer to the grounding plate hmmmmmmmm me thinks sony could be heading for alot of faulty unmodded machines if so.
Now i'm confused.
What are the symptoms of a faulty BA chip?
If it boots to the browser screen, which of the two in question is then ruled out?
If the media spins, would that indicate something regarding the IC's?
I'm not quite prepared to give up on my PS2 yet, so please bear over with my questions
The symptoms of a faulty BA58 chip (the BA66 is fime if the disk turns) are at least (if all cables are fine):
1 The BA58 doesn't warm up!
2 The tray wont eject but all cables are fine and no bridges
3 The laser won't move when the disk rotates at power up
I think that actually covers your questions.
thanks for that peeeps ..
ive checked and rechecked all the legs ..
they seem fine ! even checked with meter for continuity etc ...
maybe it blew summit else up ?? or a inner track or summit ??
what else would make thath fuse blow ?
i even day i say ... used them 2A ones that i got even blows them ... but there fast acting ones so maybe its the surge at boot up ... could be soooo many things !!
as from your explinations, would point to that chip, but its new so ! ... lo/
hmmmmm will have to have another play about before i turn to the last resort !
will keep ya posted .. i really dont wanna be beat !
many thanks Mick ..
Great , thanx all.
That rules out the IC's.
I get relieved everytime i rule out hardware faults..then equally bummed cause then i'm even further from finding the fault :-)
Oh well, suits me fine for putting my oversized fingers together with fine electronics.
