Re: audio cd skipping –
Did you... boot it in psone/dvd mode? If not, that's why. Hold in power until the light turns blue when you turn on the console, then hit eject, put in your music CD, hit eject so it closes, and go ahead and play (you can hit reset too, but I don't think it was necessary)
Hopefully that cures your problem. Otherwise, it might be the chip or install. I have the capacitor on the S wire for DVD movies. With or without the capacitor, I believe the music doesn't mess up. Safest bet, to put in the capacitor so your movies won't play back lame.

I have never seen this mentioned before, but while doing extensive testing to figure out why my system doesn't boot cd-rs very consistantly until the system is "warmed up", I noticed that the audio on my cleaner cd was skipping. This was the first time I ever used a cleaner, and maybe the first time I ever put an audio cd in my ps2.
I tried an audio cd-r and a real factory pressed audio cd with the same results. I promptly called another person with a system I just installed, and they had the same problem.
I have a v4 300001R 1c and she has a 300001R (I think 2B) version 5/6. I have a red magic 2 type R and she has a green magic 2 clone v5/v6.
If you have the problem, you will notice it right away.... The cd immediately starts to skip.
NOTE: During the troubleshooting of my other problem, I tried audio cd's with and without the 1 uf cap on... same problem both ways. The other person I spoke to does not have a cap installed.
If you can, please try an audio cd in your system, and report the results here with model and chip info please. Also, please post if you have a cap installed on the S wire.
If this is a known problem, I apologize, but I haven't seen anything on these boards about it, and I believe I have read every post.
the other person knows for a fact that audio cd's worked on her system prior to the chip install. Infact, I played an audio cd on her system right after I purchased it for her because her normal cd player broke.
