alright guys...here is the story

a few weeks ago my vibration function died on my ps2...i fix it, only to have the laser go out somehow..it spins up but can not read for some reason.


i borrow my friend's ps2 to get some work done....and all of a sudden, his laser motor *DIES* and won't spin anything


so....what i am looking to do is combine the 2 broken laser units into a single working one....since i have one that used to read but won't spin up now, and one that spins up but can't read

both lasers and ps2s are 30001 R models, v5 or v6

can someone please tell me how i can do this? any schematics or pictures? is this even possible??

also, if anyone else has a v5 R ps2 laser in perfect condition for sale at $60 or less, let me know

simple this one just take the optic eye off the sled rail of the one that doesnt spin up but reads and swap it with the one that spins up but doesnt read.

Remember to use calipers to measure the height of the optic block to the sled rails to save all the messing about rejusting the laser unit.

This controls the angle of the laser unit put a mark on this screw and just keep turning clockwise counting the turns until you cannot turn it anymore remember how many turns you did this is important when fitting the new laser.

Remove the laser on fitting the new laser unit tighten this screw backup and count the same number of turns anti clockwise so the angle of the laser is correct. EnTiTy

wel, things went from bad to great to terrible

first off, i was mistaken...my ps2 is a v4 R, not v5. my friend's is a v5.

i bought a broken v5 online. it's problem was that it's dvd drive had it's tray broken.

on my friend's system, i took his tray off and put it on the drive assembly that worked, put the system back together, and *PRESTO* working ps2.

that couldn't read dvd discs. doh!

so then, i took out the drive again and this time switch laser eyes. *Presto!* working ps2.

that couldn't read my backup of Jedi Power Battles

so i adjusted the laser POT a lil bit like i did for my own ps2 until it could read the cd-r well. *PRESTO!!* a working ps2.

that once again couldn't read dvds.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

so now, i am on a hunt for an osillioscope to try to fix the laser eyes on both v5 systems. if this doesn't work, i am seriously screwed.

on a side note, my own v4 R ps2's tray won't open or close on it's own anymore. the vibration stopped working buti fixed that. it's got the sbox wire on the board and before i fixed the vibration everything on it worked fine. Games play on it (originals and backups), but in order to play them i have to have the cover off

i'm selling this thing. i'm sure if someone has a v4 R drive assembly lying around (failed neo4/messiah mod?), this would be the perfect system for you .

i also have a good working un modded v5 R that needs a new dvd drive. i shall sell this thing too. maybe if i get enough for the 2 of these systems i'll have enough left to buy a nice new one
