I have been running into quite a few bad DMS3 2.0 chips. I have been getting some that have been giving me the black screen on boot up but the system boots fine when the chip is turned off. These were all the new blue PCB 2.0 chips. Has anyone else been seeing this problem? Has any one had to do returns on chips that you have sold from customers claiming to have this problem? I would love to get some feed back so let me know.
Also I have switched ou the chip for the messiah 2 pro only desoldering at the chip and switching the reset point and adding the ckock and the messiah 2 booted fine on every try I have done this on. So I know it is not my installation.
I test all my chips on a 37 pin socket before i do an install.. ive allready came across 2 dms3 'dud's'. (only one of them was a version 2.0)
yhea dms 3 seem to really have a problem with bad chips
Good, I am glad that I am not the only one at least. DMS needs to get there stuff together!!
L-dubb, I ran into the same problem too, but I managed to fix it.. (somewhat). DMS3 v.2 chips are extremely sensitive to power / ground connection. Is your ground wire < 2 cm? Make your power wire as direct and as short as possible. Also both wires should be 20 awg.
I had 26 awg wires in before and failed to boot (black screen). Swapping them out fixed it.

I could never get the DMS3 to work in the 37 pin socket. Did you have to work at it before it got going? Any special tips? Length of wires in particular?
I actually didnt do anything special. I saw your 37 pin socket idea, made my own pin layout, and it just so happend to work(lucky i guess, considering i did such a rush job on it). I have a picture of the install posted in the "Let's see some pics of working PS2 Mods!" forum.Quote:

I am using 30 awg wires and the wires are VERY short. I always have done that. I use them for messiah 2 all the time and even the 3.1 and they work fine. I will try using 30 awg wire and see if that works. Thanks man.Quote:

I've had 3 DMS3 one was a v1.2 and the others are v2.0. I got absolutely nothing. I wrapped 2 26AWG wires together for both, the ground and power and still go the black screen. I wonder what the deal is and if there is a component that we can add to the board to make it work.
I posted my install that worked in a v7 an this is the same way I've done the others with bad results. SO take a look at help me out. I will change to 20AWG to see if that helps.
