Apple Chip Install Snafu !!
Apple Chip Install Snafu !! –
PS2 (V5 - 3001R) will not boot up to Apple v1 chip after install.
Original PS2 and PS1 games boot fine
PS2 / PS1 backups DO NOT boot (The exact same backups do boot on a 3901 PS2 that has the Apple 2 installed tho)
Checked all the connections and tested for continuity from the pcb to the chip.
Used a DMM to check the voltages on the chip while system was powered up. There are 22 points to solder; I am getting 5V at point 10, 3.3V at 1-9 and 11-21. However, the voltage is all over ( -10 ~ -XX) for point 22. It's the point next to the reset pad. Is this normal or should point 22 also see 3.3V.
Have used the suggested power up sequences, but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has actual numbers on what voltage each point on that chip should see please update me. Thanks.
The biggest question, when you boot a PS2 original, does it display the distorted PS2 logo? (Like has black text on white background) If not, its not installed correctly. If so, the chip is working and then its most likely a laser issue.
The screen reads "Playstation 2" in all black letters. No distortion at all. The 3901 system boots Original PS2s the exact same way, but it boots the backups with the black text on white background (or maybe the inverse of those colors). I'm aware of what it is that you're talking about tho.. So as far as not being installed correctly what specifics can one apply to my original question regarding pad voltage values on a working chip?
Check connection for tab12 is connected to the resistor on th far side of the cap I had this problem with a 39002 machine works fine now. Applechip II is the better chip to get as you don't have to worry about all the different Bios's. Had no problem to date with these chip and they seem to boot up faster.
there is a point next to the reset which ii thinkis for boot disc issues
try taking the wire off and try it again
