My old Messiah 2 only booted up to codebreaker v6 and v7 (beta), but wouldn't boot my v9.3 retail disc. My Matrix Infinity, as does your Apple 2, boots them all.

Your DMS3 chip had problems because the installer couldn't install it properly. It's not because DMS3 was a bad chip.
