anyway to tell if laser is new? or was this guy screwed?

I'm trying to chip a V3 with a duo2... when the guy dropped it off and I realized it was a V3 I told him his laser probably wouldn't be able to read backups he claimed his laser had been replaced by someone else.

After realizing, yes the laser wasn't reading any backups I decided to check the pots. BOTH were cranked down to 700ohms!

Was this guy taken for a ride? did the guy who saposably replaced his laser just cranked the pots down and gave it back? is there anyway to tell if the laser has actually been replaced? or is there any reason to turn a new laser down to 700ohms?

probyl bought one off of ebay. those thigns are refurbished solded off as new or some sort

no way to tell though?

pretty useless to get a new laser and then have to get ANOTHER new laser

what do you think of this? worth it or not?

anyone know what stock settings are on a V3?

Brand new Version 1-4 lazer underside (where the DVD and CD pot it) are green whereas the old version or refurbish V1-3 are brown.

V3 stations - CD = 1080 to 1260, DVD = 800 to 1300
