Anyone try Magic 3 w/ SCPH10000
Anyone try Magic 3 w/ SCPH10000 –
11-10-2002,05:58 PM
Well its about time I got around to dusting off my old un-modded scph10000 Japanese model PS2. With all the hooplah lately about new disk swapping and swapless mods, I'm leaning toward purchasing the Magic 3 modchip. Has anyone had experience or know of others who have had success using this chip with the 1st gen Japanese models? Would like to confirm full compatability before I make my order.
Also, how do u check the bios version on a PS2?
thanks

Can't say much about the Magic 3 as I believe no one has tested it on the 10000 models except the Magic Team themselves. I believe it should work fine.
Regarding the BIOS version, you don't need to worry about it with the 10000 models as all of the early production runs were exactly the same until the 15000 came out.

Da Brass, thanks for the info. After some more research, realized that the bios issue is with a different version. Now to decide on whether to wait until the messiah 2 is in stock or go ahead with the magic 3...
another n00b question... By the way, noticed your sig, and had a few questions. Are you playing backups with no mod chip. Are you using AR, GS, or just the original utility disk + tray openng swap(knife, LH, etc...). If so, do I need to patch the CD-rom's or can u just use straight CD copies? While I wait out on the release of messiah 2 and more user reports on magic 3, thought I'd give that knife trick a shot to try some backups a friend gave me.

You nailed that one on the head. No mod-chip in my virgin PS2 still. I installed the tray switch so that I don't need to endlessly solder and re-solder chips as they come out. I just want a final solution.
Basically, here's my boot method:
Boot AR2v2, Eject and put in Original (CD/DVD), close tray, load with too many codes, back out to main menu, open tray with switch, swap out with backup, close tray with switch, boot game with no codes and it's fine.
They only thing is that I have problems occasionally with DVD-Rips, but those are usual with most people. Yes, I can play without patching...even EA games. I've only ever had problems with 1 game, and that's Ka, or the Japanese version of Mister Mosquito.
I'm not a big fan of the knife trick, cog trick. This way is a little more invasive, but completely reversable.

Yes...both the Magic 3 and Messiah 2 are going to support the JAP 10000/15000 models.

Are they an honest seller?
