Anyone who has a network adaptor willing to test something for me? They will also need a regular IDE hard drive, a GameShark/Action Replay, and a copy of Final Fantasy X (pref. International edition)

As some of you know, a few of us have been trying to get a non-Sony hdd working on the PS2. I have a theory that may work, but I don't have a network adaptor to try this with.

Make sure you have the hdd plugged in etc... I think you need it blank, but not sure. You may even need it already formatted with a game partition. You can find details of that elsewhere.

    In GS2/AR2, add the code:
    0000185c 0c000620

Activate the code, and then boot into FFX. See if you can install it to the hdd.

I don't know what the chances are of it working, and I know this isn't a very detailed msg, but anyone who has the gear will hopefully have the knowledge to fill in the gaps. And yes, I know some of you will say that there isn't a great deal of point in this, but hey, since when do we need a reason to unlock stuff like this?

Also... does anyone know if there are any issues with using a network adaptor from the US in a V4 Pal PS2? It would be so much easier if I had the gear to test these things myself

Well, I just have 5 networks adapters here and 4 new PS2 (all Sony), but believe or not, I don't got time to OPEN THE BOX OF ANY OF THEM!!

But I'll when possible of course, I have all:

    - FFX
    - FFX International
    - HDD
    - GS2

I'll need to check out the details about formating with a game partition, if you can drop me a msg (gradius@rpc1.org) tell me all the instructions (to spare my time) I'll thanks.

Check out the (Long) thread called something along the lines of "Got FFX to work with hdd..." or something. It's got a lot of info that will help.

aussiewan, that wont work as the HDD related IRX's (such as ATAD.IRX which you are trying to patch) run on IOP. AR codes only patch EE memory space.

Hypersonic: When do you think someone tried that code? I posted it from some modifications I'd made only the other day... I hadn't seen anyone else with that code, and I got it straight out of the disassembler.

Sjeep: Damn, that kinda stuffs that up then. Apparently the FFX ISO is in multisession too, so it's not a simple matter to insert the modified file. Anyone got other suggestions?

i recall seeing a gameshark code which claimed to allow a non sony harddrive to work with the network adapter. as i recall, it was tested, and did not work.. perhaps your code is dfferent to the one previously posted

Just before the error comes up, there is a test, and a jal to another section. This code changes the nop after it to a jal to the same section.
Sorry I'm all psycho happy about this... if it works... I'll be getting a network adaptor asap! Just one thing... had a bit of a look around, and most places only have the USB adaptor. Anyone know of a good reliable place to get the official PAL adaptor?

lol... no worries. Well as Sjeep kindly pointed out, the GS2/AR2 codes have no affect on drivers because they are on the IOP processor, not the EE. So we have been trying good 'ol hex editting.
