I have one v1.0.
I tried making burns of it. it does indeed boot flawlessly with a swap trick or a non modbios chip like Origa. But you will get a black screen if you try to boot it on a non japanese machine. I think it will boot on a SCPH30000 machine but you will get a warning when trying to write the driver to the memorycard.
Also the burnt copy is not capable of writting to a memory card. It hangs while writting. Even if the chip is disabled. My guess this copy protection is related somehow to the internal routine that does the PS2 logo check. I believe the disc has a copy of the same routine in it. The version 1.0 is not smart enough to detect modchips, but will not install the driver if it finds out it's running from a CDR.
