Ok guys, need alittle help here. I just received my Magic 3.1 and installed it. I just transfered everything from my Magic 2 to the new chip. except the (F) wire and the (3.5v) wire. I left everything else the way it was. Now when I start the ps2 I get the browser. Then when I hit eject and put in a backup game on cd-r I hit reset and I end up getting the red screen of death. So I shut off the ps2 and hold the reset untill the blue light comes on. I end up getting a screen with the Playstation logo and on the very bottom of the screen it says scex or however it is spelt. And it plays the ps1 start up music. Is this the ps1 mode of the chip. I have not tried other media like ps1 backups or ps2 originals. Iam at work now and when I get home iam going to open the ps2 back up and try yo figure it out. So if anyone has any ideas PLEASE let me know. Thank you

Ok, this is where I currently stand. Ps2 originals work, ps1 originals work, dvd-r's work. Ps2 rips on verbatim cd-r do not work. Is this a media issue or would some of the wires be messed up?
    Thanks

Wait a second, I think you are just booting the chip incorrectly.

    For all PS2 games:

Tap reset once to power unit on from standby, insert game, close tray and tap reset to get game to boot.

    PSx:
From standby, press and hold reset until the eject light comes on, insert game. It will automatically load.

    Disable/DVD Movie mode:
From standby, press and hold reset until you see the words "S*ny Computer Entertainment" and the chip will be disabled until you put the unit back into standby.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

I tried everything even the way you said. Now the ****ing 5v pad fell off the modchip. What a damn day this has been . I should have just left the fuking Magic 2 in. All would have been fine. I just wanted the sleep mode.

Don't fret. Just follow the trace and solder the 5V line to any point along the trace.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

precisionmods is right. The 5v is easily fixed. You can make the 5v connection to the converging point above the 5v pad. That is what I use when I install a switch to the magic chip.
