another laser question
another laser question –
I have a V3 USA PS2 modded with the magic 2. The ps2 will only boot dvd-r back-ups on verbati*m media , with a catch, the ps2 has to be turned upside down. I thought it sounded similar to the old ps1 laser issue. I did a test, after it booted , I returned it back to the upright position , the ps2 loaded and played fine ?
This happens with every dvd-r only. This system plays everything else normally.I questioned the lasers ability to read the dvd-r media , but it plays fine once past the boot up. Is it harder for the laser to read dvd-r meia during the disk recognition stage?
Again. Is it harder for the laser to read dvd-r media during the disk recognition stage? I've read all about adjusting the laser, bias , and azimuth and tired it, no change. just upside down to boot , then it works fine in any direction. I haven't heard any conversation on this. Does this machine definetly have a laser problem?
I'm kinda guessing here, but what's different about playing upside down. gravity.
Azimuth is affected by orientation. But if you've adjusted that without it making any difference......
So what's left? Maybe play on the disk tray so that when the PA2 is upside down, the lens ends up further away from the disk accidentally hitting the right focus.
On new PS2s we are finding it necessary to adjust laser azimuth to pull in DVD-Rs which have lower refelectivity. So I reckon this is an allied problem.
Interesting. I'll check this tonight , I ruled out the gravity effecting the azimuth cause of the preload spring on the adjustment. I was wondering about the coils that position the laser lens if they weren't getting enough power to lift the lens close enough to the disk, burt I never considered the opposite, that the lens has to be position further from the disc.
upside downs not so bad , except when you forget not to eject.
