    Hi guys,

I have changed the original LA6508 chip with a LA6508RII on a V9, I even replaced the laser with a brand new one (from another console), when I power op the unit the laser makes a clicking noise?after that it starts reading original media.
Should I put the original laser unit back, or do I have to calibrate the new laser head?
I shore would appreciate that someone could make a descent tutorial for resolving the dead LA6508 problem, many post have already been published, but the answers seem to be different every time.

    Best regards ....

First make sure the dot pots have the proper resistance, second clicking noise can be usually resolved by 1. clean the disc, 2. by clean the laser, 3. by playing with the 2 cogs in the system.

I used a laser unit from another dead V9 (No LA6508 problem), this was a brand new unit, i will check the resistance of the pods tonight.

Your problem sounds like you have a Matrix installed and it produced square waves into your lens coils, or CD/DVD controler damaged and malfunction.

I installed a LA6508RII and worked fine in a v9. but someold dvd-r now don-t work. maybe the lazer needs a calibration!! so, it is not a waste of time. maybe the problem is not the la in your ps2!!

    moddy.

I think the LA 6508 RII is a direct replacement for the LA chip and according to modzone site it works on both types of lasers.

while most of the other stuff assumes that part of your LA chip still works.

Measured out the dvd pots and there both @ 5 ohms.
There is no chip installed so this one could not be causing these problems.
When i boot the console the laser clicks for about 6 -> 8 times, after doing this it boots the original media without a problem....
I will try adjusting the white cog and test it afterwards.
