    Hello all,

Have been lurking through the forums, and searching, maybe I am doing it wrong, maybe it hasn't been discussed yet.

I've got a round of q's to hit you smart people up with but let's start here.

I bought a modded PS2 off of ebay, and it works perfectly in that it plays burnt NTSC & PAL discs. My question is, without opening the unit, is there a specific way to identify what chip is inside possibly?

I understand certain button presses will activate specific modes, so I'm thinking that would possibly help me to identify which chip it is.

There is no way knowing for sure, what chip you have in your PS2, without opening it. This is because there are clone chips, that act just like an original, to a certain point though.
For example, there are Modbo chips (Matrix Infinity chips clones) that display the Matrix Infinity logo. Some Modbo chips are stable enaugh, so you can change settings and stuff, while others will broke when you try such things, so you guys should not try changing any settings untill you know for sure what chip you have.

Now, if, like the guy above, you can't tell us what is written on the chip, you should post a picture of the chip -more pictures, the better-, and someone with more hardware exp will tell you what chip you have. Is better to start with the picture solution.

Thanks for the prompt response. This is the mod chip i am almost certian i have. it is the only 8 pin one from this store that did the chip

i can play a dvd from any region on it, but i cant play a backed up copy of my gran turismo 3. so i tried to copy gran turismo 2 on a normal cd and it still didnt boot. I have looked around and apparently you need to load your own firmware onto the chip. if so, how can i do this. OR am i just burning it wrong, OR am i able to enable the chip somehow

here is the desc from the website:

This very versatile chip has been used since the days of the first Playstation, the PS2 and now the slime line PSTWO. It is sold blank and uninstalled. It is custom pro
grammable, so you can load on almost any program you wish to suit your application. It is sold as an electronic component, there is no refund exchanges or warranty on this item.

No problem, but you will have to wait for someone who knows more about modchips than me. Note that in some places of the world is morning or night.

Ok, I'll open it tonight and get a better look. There was this sticker placed over one of the plastic cover pads, would this help at all?

Word. I just did an intensive search using CoolIris and I found a visual match for the pic, and that particular model matches up with an Aladdin Chips manufacturer, and it's for an XBox!

    Gah!

    BBL with the real thing.

    Okay...

Here's a pic of the module itself.

It looks pretty generic compared to what I HAVE seen, and I will go do some hunting in the meanwhile.

Now to put this thing back together, so my wifey will love me again.

    Any ideas?

    It looks like a messiah.

Have a look on this page to see if it matches anything
