Adjusting Laser
Adjusting Laser –
02-03-2004,02:44 PM
I have a V4 NTSC PS2 with a DMS3 chip installed. It plays CDR DVD rips just fine but having trouble with DVD-R's. I checked the resistance on my DVD pot and it was 601 and my CD pot was 1228. From what I have read on factory settings it sounds like i have them reversed, but I have them just the way i have seen them labeled in the pot adjusting guides. I could get it to play Tiger 2004 by adjusting azimuth, but True Crime wouldn't and vice versa. I am using Princo 1x DVD-R's and a Liteon 451s.

Any suggestions? I can't seem to find any thing on the test points to use an oscilloscope. I have seen the link that references the Euro V4.

If your looking for test points for the scope, try pin 1 on the chip. I forget what the number is on the chip.
Anyways, that is your TP.

1stncld: I got the same as yours too V4 GAP
CD pot 1228 Ohms
DVD pot 726 Ohms
I changed DVD pot to 1200 Ohms ....woowlaaa...It detected but didn't play... I changed back to 800 Ohms, it didn't detect. So I will move up maybe 50 or 100 Ohms a time. However, I am not sure if I am done correctly or need to do another method.

I have a similar problem my friend and am going crazy over it! My DVD-r are best quality with the ritek g04 dye that most people round here seem to reccomend. but hey ,ines not even doing originals

Isn't the way you guys adjust the laser totally opposite?
If the original resistance on the DVD pot is 726, you should reduce the resistance to 716 or 706 to allow more power goes through since you are using DVD-R which is less reflective than original DVD.
CD pot should have higher value because it requires less power to read.

actually from what I have seen factory settings are all over the place.
Some times they are both up around the 1400, but more often the CD side is up between 1200 and 1400 and the DVD side is between 800 and 1200. This is not dependent on the model - varies across all.
