Yes - the azimuth setting is important to the focus. It's all in the Laser Azimuth document in the FAQ. If it's not set right, DVD-Rs won't pull in.

"An important point to note: Laser Azimuth adjustment (the screw that angles the lens on the sled assembly) can be sloppily set by Sony as there is tolerance when reading pressed CD/DVD. If the angle isn't right for DVD-R then reflectivity will be poor. So look at that question (separately posted)."

Sorry, I cant seem to find the "separately posted" question.

Nevermind, I have found it. Thanks. So my technician has been playing around with the 'white cog'. Anyhows, I'm having this problem where the PS2 DVD original sometimes wont boot, it would just take me to a browser screen which has frozen. I have a messiah 1 fitted in an PAL SCPH-30002 v3. This might happen 1/20 times. The red screen never comes up though. Could this have something to do with the adjustment of the white cog?
