Mike, its a long time since I messed with AR2s, but I did have a couple of them that had the same problem you described, and it was down to a bad connection. I managed to prise the outer cae off the AR2, the clean up the copper contacts with a fibre glass pen, and that cured it.

I would just invest in a codebreaker, they dont use a proprietary dongle they just use you memory card. They are like $20

I am going to try it but I dont know if it will work.
The Action Replay worked a few times then I started using the bonus disk and playing ps1 games when I tried to use the First disk again it would not read the dongle.
I bought a new AR2 both are 8mb dongles but look different neither works.

ps1 mem cards are extemely small in capacity, considering you can save multiple ps2 games to the dongle, it isnt a ps1 memory card. it just doesnt have magic gate, and therefore requires the action replay to be able to do anything with the memory card.
and its not like ar2 is the only option for a cheat device.
now on the other hand, if he's using it for a swap, he's screwed.
Lol I can still boot ps1 back ups with the bonus disk.
Really I only have 2 ps2 games right now and both are oringinals
FF10 & Conflict Desert Storm.
I got a few hundred ps1 games though.
I know there has to be a way to hex one of the files on the cd and reburn the ar2 so it will use a standard memeory card I will have to look around and see what I can come up with..

I dont know if this really matters but if you want to know both ps1 and ps2 normal memory cards work.
