When I was installing my magicV modchip on my v5 ps2, I accidently removed one of the sides of a capacitor (the one right below the SCEX resistor). I replaced it with a 1 micro-farad capacitor. When I press the power button the ps2 comes on for a split second then shuts off into standby mode right away. I'm 95% sure it's the capacitor that is causing this to happen does any one know the value of this capacitor.

The capacitors don't really connect to the mb at the sides of them. They acually connect on the bottom side. Verify that you have connected it at the bottom side and check the pad and tracks running from the attachement point.

The capacitors are easaly removed ont both sides when soldering to it. Use light pressure from a flat screwdriver to secure the capacitor and tip both sides of the capacitor.

    good luck

I replaced the capacitor but left the SCEX wire out cauz I dont need to boot ps1 backups. The system works fine but now with some burnt ps2 games (especially games with nomod patches) the ps2 goes into the browser screen and shows a ps2 disc but doesnt allow me to load it. Most games do work. I also burned a game with alcohol 120 and the game didnt load but then i decided to try and do a cog swap with gameshark and that allowed me to load it. Is this normal.

Perhaps it's your laser wich needs adjustment.

First try azimuth. The easiest way i found to adjust azimuths is to take the top cover off and take the top of the dvd assembly off.
With a gentle pull you can remove the white magnetic plate from that top.

Now leave the top off so you can see and hear what's going on.

Adjust the azimuth very careful. Put a cd on the spindle and place the magnetic white plate on top of the cd.

Often, different types of media needs different settings of the azimuth but there is mostly a way-in-the-middle (dunno how to say that in English).

More guides about laser adjustments can be found in the forum's FAQ departement. Also try a search for v5 specific laser issues.

Remeber. First try azimuth and Cog adjuster, then, as last, the laser itself.

    Good luck

if you have a digital camera take a picture if its the cap on the scex signal it does not matter and can be left off the mod supplys the scex signal so it wont have any affect with the cap missing just solder to the scex wire to the pad where the cap came off.
