Could someone clarify if this model is indeed worst than 39001 or 30001 series?
I though it was better since it read +RW format and previous series had problems with that.

I read about cuting track or installing a LA IC to avoid a well known problem this model does have. By doing this, will my PS2 become perfect?

I just see 50K series everywhere so which modchip is better for this model?

You don't install a LA chip to solve the problem V9/10 are having. You do the romeo mod on them which prevent the LA chip that's already on the motherboard to not burn out. The romeo mod is a simple mod to have the LA chip use 5v instead of the 12v it was given at stock to burn the LA chip out if bad media or scratched disc were given to the PS2 to read.

Every modchip is good for the V9/10. Just depends on what modchip you want. More features more money. I recommend the MATRIX INFINITY if you're going high end. The Duo 2 if you just want to direct boot all your backups and play imports.

By the way, DVD+R and DVDRW are bad for the PS2 from what I heard.

Thanks for answering, what about lens unit? I heard they are very very poor quality and get dead soon. But if it does +/-RW media does not that means its a better lens unit?

The lens won't die off if you use nice non-scratched disc and good media such as Verbatim DVD-R and Ritek DVD-R.

I don't know much about DVD+R/DVD-+RW damaging the lens but that's what I was told by a good source. So if you want to try it out and see if your laser die off faster you can try it, but I would just stick with good branded DVD-R. Sure they could read it but it doesn't mean that is it good for them. You could smoke, but it doesn't mean it's good for you...

    It's all about the brand
Brand=quality (for the most part - depending on the dye)
Last time I looked, Verbatim used Ritek dye's for their discs. Datasafe/write (same company) tend to ue Ritek dye as well. F**cking good stuff too

The more crappy a media is, the harder the lens has to work thereby reducing its lifetime. I can't speak for +R (as I've not seen anything saying its officially supported), but as 50k's actually claim support for -/+ RW, if the media is a quality disc, there should be little/no affect on the laser

While plenty of people will give you conspiracy theorys about Sony purposefully making ps2's die on you, It's unlikely they would claim support for something that will kill the lens

I'd be curious how many US/Canadian version 9's have died from the dreaded LA Syndrome. I haven't seen/heard of one yet. So far, only PAL consoles.

Regardless, the romeo is a great safety precaution. With it done, I don't think the V9 is any 'weaker' a console than any other.

Search around mike, there are plenty of them. The idea that PAL V9/10 die easier than US consoles is just ridiculous. I know people with V9/10 consoles from the US that got burnt. The romeo mod prevents the burnout, period. There has not been 1 romeo modded V9/10 that burnt.

I know two people that had 5 V9/10 burn out because they didn't to the romeo mod. One guy had 2 burn out, the other had 3. They swapped back to Walmart.

Ive been looking aound for broken v9s, But I always find v9s with HD7 and there laser or LA is dead and they dont know which one it is (I need a v9 with 400C which I found they dont know whats wroung). Ive noticed that the HD7 lasers kill the LA chips..... I got a v9 ps2 at home , LA never has dieded, But my laser has gotten real weak hense buying a broken v9.
