1min delay before disc loads

i removed a 14 wire homebrew (48pin) chip to install a accessor chip on a v5, upon firing the console of the replacement it appeared that the disc did not load, so i removed the chip and tested the unit with a original game.............

problem:

the disc does a quarter spin 5 times then stops, then after 1 min the game loads, this is the same for the dvd movies i tried.

would this have anything to do with the previous chip (i forgot to test the unit before reinstalling)?

is it possible that there could be a track cut somewhere?

is there anyway to fix this problem?

update:

i tried replacing the ba6664fm chip, but to no avail, same prob as before, the other ba chip tested ok, pin8 to ground is neg.

update 2:

i pulled apart the ps2 agian, checked for any loose connections, i also tried a spare v5 dvddrive i had lying around, i also noticed that when i spins it makes a slight clicking noise with each quater turn.

can anyone help me.....................please?

what puzzles me is that a dvd movie does load after one minute with no apparent skipping, why would it suddenly start working after 1min exactly each time when i flatly refuses to even spin when you put the disc in the tray

please help

I've had two PS2's with exactly the same fault and both the same versions, i.e. version 5. In both cases, the non-solder mods were the culprits that caused the damage.
Unfortunately I could never find the fault. I tried replacing the laser, but it still did exactly the same. I strongly suspect an integrated circuit to be the blame. The one shown in the pic bellow, but due to the difficulty in replacing it, I've never bothered.
Both units have since been taken to the graveyard unfortunately.

i have a second unit that just came in with a simmilar issue....im going to try to replace the lazer on both, failing that i will replace the circuit......................that should be fun!!!

I am experiencing the same problem....it just started.

I see where someone said they had 2 units doing the same thing...but are now in the graveyard..is it this that caused them to die?

Any info would be appreciated

The problem that causes this is the BA 5815FM chip, regardless that it measures ok, i.e. Pin 8 to ground.
You have to remember that integrated ciruits can cause wierd problems that no amout of measuring can determine if that's the cause.
I'm my days of repairing TV's, VCR's and computer monitors, I've seen some wierd faults in these units and by replacing the appropriate IC in most cases fixes the problem, even when measuring pin by pin with an oscilliscope or a digital multimeter and with the aid of a circuit diagram, replacing the chip was the only way to repair the fault.
I'm 99.999% certain if you replace the BA5815FM IC, it will fix your problem.
