12C508A on my PS2, Not working? or is it? What can i do with it?

Hey guys,

I recently posted in another thread about what mod chip i have. I have found out that it is the 12C508A. I can play region free DVD's on the PS2 but i cant play a backup i made of my original Gran Turismo 3 (Red Screen). So i tried a backup of my Granturismo 2 and it just hangs after the boot screen with a black screen.

Something is working as i am able to play a region free dvd, but not games. Is there anyway to reflash the chip while it is in the ps2?

OR is there a special way or burning or booting the games?

I even did a burn at 1x and this didnt help

It is a SCPH-30002 if this helps.

you be better off getting Stealth4 or MM3 hex and flashing that chip with that, and installing in a PS1.

Well according to the place that did it, They work in ps2's. I think it may have been disabled tho.

install free mc boot and remove that crap mod chip.

How come it is crap?

If it is already installed and can play DVD Region free, doesn't that indicate something is working?

because it will conflict with any newer software that has anit-mod protection like newer ps1 games and a nice random chunk of ps2 software.

Is there any way to activate/deactivate it?

I have neo 2.2 on pal V3. FMCB working ok, i cant use esr dvd backups cause my laser
is half ****ed up (reads only cds). But with esr (gui) i can directly boot ps2 cd backups.
Dont know how to turn it off.

how to use it (if you dont have FMCB/ESR/USBADVACE/ULE installed on your memcard):

PS1 backup (your region) -> under ps2 browser disc should be recognized as original and boot from there
PS2 CD backup -> you need original AR2/gameshark/swapmagic -> single swap
PS2 DVD backup -> you need original AR2/gameshark/swapmagic, EA eject working, original big PS2 DVD -> double swap

advice -> get FMCB installed on your memcard and then use usbadvance/esr/hd loader/... !

you add a switch to the hotwire of the chip.
