Just use the tips that come with the 15 watt iron from Radio Shack. Those work fine, even on those pesky controller chip connections on the v0-3's. The replacement tips are 99 cents and you won't need to replace them to often unless you do this kind of thing on the side.
you're never gonna find a .10mm tip for your radioshack iron.
BUT, you do have a workable (very ghetto)option.
if you have, or know anyone with a dremel tool or some sort of grinder, get your hands on one.
you can take the shitty radioshack tip, and grind it skinny to a fine point.
the only problem with this is that in the process you're grinding the nickel plating off the copper. and when copper getsto soldering temps, it likes to corrode. and that corrosion is a shitty conductor of heat.
basically and grinding it nice and sharp, you start your soldering like usual. after a few minutes(10 or so once the iron gets hot enough), you need to stop what you're doing and let it cool down. then take some sandpaper and knock the corrosion off the tip. which means plugging the iron back in and waiting for it to heat up again. basically whenever you notice the solder even beginning to not melt the same. then once it's hot again, go back and re-do the last point you soldered since you dont want to leave a possibly shitty joint.
as completely stupid and irritating as this sounds, it WILL work. but if you're gonna do more than just your own and maybe a friends system, you'll want to get a decent iron and tips because it just ends up being too much of a hassle if you need to do it a lot. i did this ONCE and it worked like a charm, just drove me up the damn wall.
Even without dremel, just look for a workshop.
All of them have grinding wheels.
It takes 1 minute to make it as fine as you like![]()
I've been looking for this 0.10 mm tip everywhere and no luck. So it's easier to make one. But does this tip exist as a normal product?Originally posted by Chip&Chop

is the .12 good enough for the job?...will .2 mm make a difference...also what plug type should you buy?
i use antex soldering iron 18w and low melting point solder and no .02 of a mm aint going to make a difference and i would say radio shack 15 watt tip is a lot bigger what plug do you mean power
OMG - if the tip is any good - fileing or grinding it down to a smaller size will kill the tip.
The good tips have a thin layer of say chrome (not chrome but you get the idea) over the top of a copper core.
If you grind the top layer off the solder will never stick to the internal copper layer - tip becomes useless.
Cheap tips may be made differently though...
i agree hole heartedly
