I bought a v12 slimline limited edition white ps2 imported from japan (cost me extra money, so I would like to save it) and installed a matrix modchip in it without doing research as to the reprocussions of not installing more than the diode fix.

Things proceed more or less text-book and I'm left with a broken v12ps2 (what was strange was the thing just "turned itself on" while I was sleeping and got left on for like 5 hours or something.)

I'm not sure weather this is routine or not, but the laser doesnt shine red at ALL, nor does it move around and try to read the disks, it wont recognize any form of cd or dvd media. This perplexes me because i was under the impression that there were three seperate laser coils CD DVD*movie* and DVD*game* that would all need to be burned up before my laser wouldnt read any media at all.

I just really would like to know if there is any way I can salvage my ps2.
And what steps I need to take to make it happen

I understand that its neccessary to buy a fix for the pstwo to prevent the laser coils from burning up. So I bought the subzero fix and am ready to install it when (and if) i can fix my ps2 (is this enough?)

    Thanks for your help!

You might want to de install the diode fix and maybe go to the subzero fix. You probably need a new laser. Did you install it properly. I hope this helps.

Replace focus and tracking resistors and you may also need a new laser head. New heads are about $35.00 on ebay

I'll try to do all of that, But, how can I tell if my tracking and focus resistors are dead or not?
I've tried to find information to help me check the values, but I've been having problems finding anything...
