I went to Crystal Chip's site, and there are 2 files to download, but one is firmware for sure, and the other is, I think, source-code for firmware.

I recently got my PS2 modded , and I am completely new to this.

The only reason I knew there was something missing (BM), is that my system would not read the Japanese DVD that came with my copy of Hokuto No Ken.

Also, I do not know what version of firmware came installed on my system (I had it professionally done, 'cause I've yet to solder), but I do know that according to the professional's site, that I have a CC 1.2.

Many thanks all, for your forebearance.

    http://www.crystal-chips.com

    or

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/crystal-...34-hacked.html

the later is the hacked firmware allows you to play backups as well which is something to my knowlegde that Crystal chip firmware stock doesn't allow you to do, i assume its for legal reasons.

I'm rather new myself but if I can help in anyway I'll do what I can.

Download the latest hacked firmware from this forum, as it contains Bootmanager. Make sure you install both the firmware and the Bootmanager as different versions often don't work together.

Also, you may want to read through the forums here before you go and flash/install everything. I haven't had any issues upgrading, but some people have had to boot in to "recovery mode" in order to update their firmware correctly.

    Good luck!

EDIT: Oz, you beat me to it! I guess that's what happens when you post from work...

Just like the fellows above said, but if you want to watch your DVD you have to use software release 29. DVD booting is broken in R34.

    Jones23:

Okay - so where do I get ver. 2.9?

Also, would ver. 3.2 work? or does it lack DVD capabilities like 3.4?

It kinda sucks that 3.4 won't let me see my Japanese DVDs... will this be fixed later?

Why is there a ver. 3.4, ver. 3.2, etc., if none of them let us watch DVDs? What do these versions have that would make them more desirable? I'd really like to know, 'cause I'm looking to install the best option available for my system.

The idea of installing it through a flash drive via PS2 USB seems quite nice. Ought to be the easiest way - or no?

P.S. Was I supposed to get a CD with my Crystal Chip? I did not. The mod was done in a shop where I purchased the CC and the labor, both. If I WAS supposed to get a CD, is there anywhere I can get a copy?

If you would be so kind as to help a neophyte modder with links (I have looked for 'em, but couldn't find 'em) to the most viable version (2.9?) of the firmware, AND the most viable version of BM compatible with said (2.9?) firmware, I would greatly appreciate the effort!

    Thank you in advance.

    P.P.S. I have a 1.2 CC

    Here is V29

    http://www.xpconsole.eu/images/xp/cc...hacked_029.zip

I am still using v29 as v34 has too many bugs, all features of v29 work fine. (Imports PS2 PS1 DVD's)

No , you do not get a CD with your CC. (Some Installers might give you one)
You just download the firmware/BM from the net.

v34 has some nice new features but untill the video fixes are fixed I will stay with v29 as I have a fully working system without problems.

    XPZone:

    Thanks mate!

Does this come with the proper BM in it?

I could not find a link to BM, nor notion of which version to use with 2.9.

Everything you need is there in the iso image .

    Firmware v29
    Boot Manager v2.0.6

burn the image to a CD
    then install the firmware
    then the boot manager

You might need to install from recovery mode (press reset 3 times)
