VERY strange CC-1.1 V4 Problem
Hi guys.
I have a PS2 here from someone who sent it in for chipping. It is a V4 and I have installed a Crystal 1.1 onto the motherboard and the install went very smoothly, all my connections are good, the wires are short, and everything checks out perfectly fine with the multimeter. So, I masked everything up, screwed it all back together, powered on, tested an original PS1 CD, DVD Video and its fine. I attempt to try an original PS2 DVD and it attempts to spin it up, does so successfully, screen goes black................ and we return to browser screen showing an 'PS2 DVD.' It was fine prior to install and booted EVERYTHING perfectly. Firmware CD will simply go to RSOD.
So, I check everything again, and as I had already confirmed, everything was perfect. So, at this stage I thought I could be here all day trying to diagnose this, and so I ripped the whole thing out, took apart a spare V4 I have lying around and decided to install it to that board. I do so - using fresh wires and everything - it all checks out, put that one all back together and guess what - on a 2nd V4 console, it has EXACTLY the same symptoms as the first. Once again, this console also worked perfectly prior to the install.
As I say, it all checks out continuity wise, its a neat install, the chip is mounted as standard on a V4, I have modded lots of PS2s but this has me beaten. All I can think of is a faulty CC1.1...
If anyone has any ideas, or can confirm my suspicions then that would be most helpful. Thank you...
