v9 no longer plays games, only DVDs?
Hey all, time for return of the infamous v9. I have done the romeo mod to this PS2 and it has been working great up until last week. Using r34 hacked, I have been playing backups and occasionally loading up HDAdvanced. Last week, inexplicabley, the PS2 would no longer read backups. It would read a regular movie DVD burned on my PC and retail PS2 games, but no backups.
I thought maybe my laser was about to bite it finally, so I popped the case open, took some readings. Everything looks kosher off the coil, so I adjusted the height of the laser rail (POTS are already adjusted +3% of what they came from the factory at), checked my solder joints and cable connections, closed the rig up. For giggles, I booted my CC into recovery mode and reloaded r34.
Now, the PS2 won't even play games from the DVD drive. BM will see a PS2 game (both retail and backup), but booting results in a hard freeze at or before the publisher logo. Interestingly enough, though, DVDs will play fine (but I have to disable the CC to do so because of a bug in r34). Haven't tried HDAdvanced yet, but I don't think that would matter. Maybe I'll try formatting the DFFS and reflashing and loading BM again. Is it possible a bad installation of BM can affect PS2 game loading (doubtful to me, but I don't know the technical specifics of the BM)?
- PS2 v9
- CC 2.0
- r34 firmware
- PS2 games (retail and backup) freeze when booting
- DVD Movies play fine
- Romeo mod is installed, POTS are already adjusted
EDIT: Formatted the DFFS, upgraded r34 hacked again and installed the BM again. Still no luck. Tried bypassing the CC (6x reset), retail games will pop the PS2 logo up then freeze, so I think there may be an issue with the height adjustment I made. Or I may have somehow fried something on one of my solder points, but I haven't gone near the PS2 with an iron in 3 months.
