    Good day,

    I actually have 2 problems:

1: I am having some problems with installing a CC1.1 in a GH-005 Playstation. When i installed the chip the first time, i could only get the PS2 to read music CD's and nothing else, not even originals.

2: I removed the chip, cleaned up the motherboard and tried to reading some discs...now it will only read DVD Movies. When i put a original PS2 game in, i can see it in the browser but when i try to play it, it goes to a black screen then back to the browser

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

I re-installed the crystal chip, now the ps2 loads music cds, burned dvd movies, original DVD movies, and original games....but when i insert the Crystal Firmware CD, it just goes straight to black screen and hangs there...this is the 4th crystal i have installed and never had this problem, any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Also, when the PS2 is loading a disk, it seams to take forever..long enough for the browser menu to appear, is this normal?

    thanks

Sounds like a laser problem, but that's just my guess. Check to make sure you don't have any solder bridges. If you're installing a 1.1, what does the LED read?

Also, better to post this in the CC forum up top. Moved.

Thanks for moving to the proper forum.

No solder bridges that I can see, I've even checked with a microscope at work. The led blinks once real quick and that is it....

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Well...the blink means the install *SHOULD* be ok. Been a while since I diagnosed these types of errors, but what gauge wires are you using? Shouldn't be any ground bounce anymore, but just make sure you've got good secure connections by using a little flux.

Maybe someone else can chime in?

If the LED turns off, the BIOS wires are fine. Also, when properly installed, a virgin(non-upgraded) will boot nothing but CD audio and the CC upgrade disc. All other discs will go back to the browser.

Older consoles are quite slow to boot discs, especially if the laser is wearing out.

I believe your problem is with the authentication wires(A-I and "HA").

30 AWG for all connections except Ground.
    20 AWG For ground Wire.

I hope you're able to resolve your issues, I know how frustrating it can be to debug an install.

with V1-V4 console expect issues with your laser. This issue sounds like a laser issue to me as well. People dont realize that recordable media is simply more difficult for any laser to recognize. This is why your pressed originals may still be working but you are having trouble booting the firmware disc. This is what its nice to be able to flash the chips by other means then just a disc.

Thanks for all the replies, but I think its offically dead....after i reinstalled the chip again i was able to play a burned game without even flashing the firmware (i still couldnt get it to load the firmware CD)...it played for about 15 minutes then went black screen, wouldnt eject, just a grinding type noise...so i took it apart again to get the disk out and now it wont do anything, the eject light stays on when i press the button..doesnt even blink, then all lights go off and still doesnt eject.
