USB Pen drive is just a USB Flash drive. To make your PS2 see it with any PS2 program, it must be in FAT format. I use a 128 MB EMPREX for all my Game saves, Toxic OS wallpapers, and ELF storage. And I use a 512 MB CORSAIR for my .avi shows and such for SMS.

Yes, they are both the same thing: "USB flash drives are also known as "pen drives", "chip sticks" (though very uncommonly), "thumb drives", "flash drives", "USB keys", and a wide variety of other names." - source

One major difference between USB devices, could be if they have some type of encryption/security software installed on them, which you can read about at the source link I provided.

    thanks.
btw, if i got stuff in the usb key, will it still work if i try to update the firmware? Like if i got some file from my work in it, and then i put the firmware in the usb key. Will the PS2 still recognize it there a firmware in it?
I got a PNY USB key 1 gig. Is a FAT format, and i'm trying to update the C.C.1.0 firmware

I have no idea, since I have never owned a usb device like that before. Just try it and see, if nobody can give you a straight answer. If your ps2 can run apps off it, then firmware shouldn't be any different...

Firmware is not upgradable with USB Pen drives. To update the firmware you need to boot on something, and you can't boot the PS2 on an USB drive... The only way to upgrade firmware at the moment is to use the CD-R made for it.

Ok, well I guess the CC firmware is completely different from the Matrix Infinity Firmware then, cause I CAN upgrade that off my memory card, hdd, and possibly a usb device (never tried this yet).
