Upgrading and installing BM problems... –

Hi everyboby,
first of all sorry for my english, I'll try to make my self clear in a way or another
So, here's my problem. I've bought a PStwo (slim) with a CC 1.0 . I wanted to upgrade fw and install BM so I've downloaded all files from CC site. I've created the image and booted it on my ps2.
-Well, first of all I can't upgrade the fw. I press X on "upgrade fw" but nothing happens!
-I'm able to install BM, but at the end of the operation a strange sentence appears : "failed to load startup" (or something similar, I don't remember exactly)
Anyway, the BM seems to work...at least till I try to choose "boot media" (nothing happens, obviously with a game inserted) or any other option. For example I also tried to install Ps2Reality from a cd, but when I choose "install application" I get the screen with only "devices" written at the top and nothing happens...
I mean , there's something not working properly here...
Where did I go wrong?
The only thing that I thought about is that maybe I had to create the cue image extracting ALL files of the CC site .rar archive in the same folder... even those insede the "FILES" folder?
Little update
I had the time to give it another try during work lunch break...
So, I tried also with the hacked fw that I downloaded form WikiCC.
And it doesn't work. When I press X over the update firmware option the "highlight" just return over the install BM option and nothing happens...
I tried also to install BM and, as the original one, it gives that message "failed to load/install (i don't remember) startup.
When I restart my PS2 BM boot correctly but, as I said before, I can't boot any media and can't do nothing at all rather than "navigate" through options...
Can someone help me?
p.s. I don't know if this is important, but this is what system information tells me :
I can't find a hacked FW on the CC Wiki, where exactly did you dl it?
Try the hacked software available here on the forum. (link in my signature) Make sure that there's enough free space on your MemCard for BM (700kb). I installed that software on a v7 with CC1.0 and had absolutely no prob.
The FW update should take about half a minute with the CC1.0, there's no message or any other confirmation. Take a look at the CD to see if the FW is on the CD. (FWARE10.CCI inside BM/FWARES folder)
If the above infos are all you see on the system information screen, then you don't have the latest version (release 29). I attached a pic of the actual sys info screen.
**About the firmware**
Sorry, the fw I downloaded was the one in your sign.. So, where could be the problem (I think that FWARE10.CCI is present, since it has been made by you guys)? Does the free space on my memory influence the operation? I think that just matters for the BM installation, not for the firmware...
**About the BM**
Any idea of what that error message about start up I posted above can mean?
**About sys info**
To be precise, this is what I see :
bootmanager : v 2.0.6
crystal chip : 1.0
console bios : 2.20
console version : ???
I don't rember what it says on console region, and I think all the rest is not important right?
That's really strange, the firmware should definitely work and I never had an upgrade fail. I too don't think that free MC space has an influence on the FW installation.
Maybe you should check your chip installation (or let someone check if you're not familiar with soldering).
BM fails to install the STARTUP folder, maybe due to insufficient space, or something else is wrong with your MC. Are you using an official $ony one or a big MAX MemCard? The MAX crap is notorious for causing trouble.
Try to use the delete BM folder option in the MemCard manager before installing the BM anew, just to be sure, and check if you have enough free space (700kb).
If nothing works try to reformat your MC. You can use LaunchELF to backup your saves. Boot it from CD without BM.
I think the first thing to do is to be sure that the firmware is up to date. Did you try to boot in recovery mode before upgrading ? (press reset 3 times on startup) ? I really don't know if this is the solution, just a try...
The MC is an original one, but I'll try with another brand new one.
Concerning the firmware I don't really know what to say... and neither can I about tha installation of the chip.
But can really a "soldering" error influence the fw flashing? I mean, I thought that a chip can work or not work, not that a chip could work "half-service" ^__^
Anyway, I'll give it another try tonight after work...
one last thing : don't you think is strange that the sys info says "???" about console version?
[EDIT]
Answering YOC :
I thought that the firmware version was "console BIOS" showed in sys info, isn't it?
And, if I reboot in recovey mode, don't I "cancel" the firmware? So, if I then can't flash back with another firmware? I'd find myself with a "normal" console...
Booting in recovery mode doesn't cancel the firmware, it just bypass it for this specific reboot. But when you reboot again, you'll boot on the flash firmware. So, don't be afraid of the recovery mode
As for the console bios version I'm not sure this is the firmware version. I think there is no way to know about it.
SO you suggest to reboot in rec mode with the upgrade disc inserted, try to upgrade and see what happens?
Or did you mean to reboot in rec mode and then reboot again in normal mode and try to upgrade?
Sorry if I don't understand at once...
Yes, recovery mode is a good idea. Boot the upgrade disc in recovery mode and try to install the FW. Might help and is definitely worth a try.
Console BIOS version is the version of your PS2(console) BIOS, you can also see that when you push triangle on the default $ony boot screen.
The ??? after the console version is a result of a small script error. Should be v14 or v15 for your PS2, but nothing to worry about.
