Run HD Loader from Crystal on-board flash memory?
Run HD Loader from Crystal on-board flash memory? –

I'm modding a v7 PS2 for a friend and looking to get them a Toxic OS like functionality with the Crystal Chip if possible.
Can HD Loader be installed directly onto the Crystal Chip 2.0 Pro? Or do you have to load it from a CD or memory card?
I've looked around and haven't found an answer, but I apologize if this question has been answered already!

Hello,
Welcome to Crystal Chips !
Flash memory is only for BM. You won't have enough space to put a large ELF like HLDOADER.
For that, you'll have to install a CC 2.0 Pro SLE (it has 2 MB of flash memory).
The best way to run software indeed is to install them on Memory Card. This is the most compatible media for launching ELF.

You can put HDL on the flash, however there is not enough room with the default setup. The additional drivers required for USB, HDD, network, etc all take up additional space. If you remove those drivers, you can use the space to store HDL.
The better solution is to install HDL to HDD/USB/MC/etc and run it from there, using the flash as a storage for BM and drivers. If you're going to be using HDL, you obviously have a HDD so it makes most sense to do that anyway.

I agree installing to the hard drive or memory card makes sense - but if either of those are changed or removed down the road, then HDL would have to be re-installed. Not an issue for me, but would be a problem for my friend.

Why is that a problem? Just give him a CD with all the apps he needs and everything's fine, then he can reinstall HDL whenever he wants.

Hi,
i'm looking to doing the same thing, having the ps2 boot directly from the hard drive.
I'm new to this hdd thing.
Do i connect a hdd to the usb port or buy a hard drive and connect it to the network adapter?
Also i download the HD Loader program, do you need to copy it to cd first and then trasfer it over.
Also how do u get it to boot directly from HD ?
Btw i ordered a Crystal Chip 2.0 SLE so i have 2 meg of flash memory.
What i want is to limit the dvd rom use, so if the laser get worn out, i still can use my ps2.
also another question, can i connect the hard drive thru usb and set up the backup of my ps2 games from pc? so i don't need to run it from the drive of the ps2?
i have a 18 month old, he goes thru all my dvd, i lost quite a few dvds already!
