PS2 died after trying to boot PS1
PS2 died after trying to boot PS1 –
09-27-2006,02:07 PM
today i tried to boot up a cd-r ps1 game (first ps1 i tried to boot). BM recognizes the cd-r, and tries to load it. then the tv goes all black and nothing happens. so i reset the console, and it´s still just black, no bm or ps2 logo or anything. no matter what i feed the tray, or if its empty, nothing happens. the led's are glowing at least. im so pissed off right now because of this. what could have happened and why? the drive starts spinning the record you insert but nothing happens.
i guess im gonna have to take my ps2 back to the mod store tomorrow....
what do you think of this?

if you still have warranty on it, i wouldn't turn it on again and bring it back.
otherwise you could try to reinitialize the chip by pressing certain buttons
during start up to reflash the chip with its original firmare (if possible).

i tried that thing (several times) with pressing reset 6 times when you power up, but nothing helps. warranty? i got it modded like 2 days ago so they cant refuse to fix it for free...

ok i now have my ps2 back and running. what happened was real horror, and i write this as a warning. the old ps1 cd i tried to boot was obviously of bad quality. the guy in the mod shop said that the cd-r ****ed up my ps2 bios and somehow did damage to the chip!
he had to reflash the ps2 bios and install a NEW chip to make it work again. that said, im not letting any old ps1 cd-r's anywhere NEAR my ps2 again...now that i have tried out the cc chip with boot manager and all installed, i must say im really satisfied with it. it boots all of my burned ps2 games all of the time!

I bet a wire came off and then he told you the chip died to charge you for another modchip but still used the same chip...
