Is it possible to get a clone Crystal Chip?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting an installer to mod my PS2 with the Crystal Chip, but is there any chance of getting a clone CC? I think if I specifically state what mod chip I want I get less of a chance of getting a clone.

I'm not very good at soldering (it's not for me), my Dad has done about 6 or so Xbox 1 mod chip installs but these PS2's seem hard, I don't even dare mention to my Dad it's like 19 wires instead of like 12 on the Xbox 1 (he aint got the best of eye sight either).

I'm gonna email my brother-in-law because he knew a guy who chipped my PS1, hopefully he still around chipping PS2's.

I just want to backup my games to a USB hard drive and run homebrew. My PS2 is a V14 Slim.

Also do I get CC2.0Pro or CC2.0SLE (can't see any difference)?

Difference between CC2.0Pro and CC2.0SLE is the Pro has 1Meg of Onboard flash, the SLE has 2Meg. Allows you more room to store binaires like ULauchElf etc. If you don't think you're going to be running a lot of homebrew software, I wouldn't really worry which you get. Though if you can get the SLE easily, you might as well.

If you ask for a Crystal Chip, you can be sure you're not going to get a clone as there are no clone CC's on the market. For more info about this, read this page on the CC site, specifically down the bottom of the page under the heading "Update"

Wow thats GREAT NEWS DUDE. I actually intended to make a thread just like this coz couldn't find any info on Crystal Clones (if any) on google. I live in India and the only region where I can get a premodded PS2 is the local gray markets over here which is FILLED TO THE BRIM with fake PS2 modchips, and I can't even open the PS2 up just to make sure whether am getting the original modchip or not coz they won't allow it :P

Well its okay. I don't intend to use USBAdvance. Just backups burned on blank DVD media

The only thing am worried about is NOT being able to cheat I regularly cheat on my PS2 games (currently own FAT PS2 v9 with Magic V 50k modchip) which enables me to cheat using ANY cheat device I throw at it, codebreaker v9.2 cracked, Gameshark 2 v4, Xploder v4, Action Replay Max EVO, etc.

Am selling that fat PS2 coz its lens is getting weaker and weaker by the day and I intend to get rid of it and buy another premod with a Crystal Modchip in it and frankly speaking, NOT being able to cheat with that modchip is the ONLY reason am holding back on it

Edit: Also, I would like to mention that I live in India, and we get premodded PS2s over here in the local gray markets, which are smuggled from malaysia/Hong Kong/whereever, etc, etc and are sold here. Now, am very much afraid of fakes of other modchips like Matrix Infinity or others, and the only reason am sticking to the Crystal Modchip is that THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY no clones for that modchip, which is just amazing, which will make me 100% sure that am getting an original Crystal Modchip and not a cheap fake clone coz I can't open the premodded PS2 and check which modchip those people are selling me coz they won't allow it :P

Anyways, so is there any way to cheat on PS2 backups on the Crystal Modchip ??? Any help in this regards will be greatly appreciated.

In your signature I see that you use Gameshark 2 v4 and Codebreaker V7. I think the only cheat device the CC has issues with are the latter versions of Codebreaker. IIRC 9.2, 9.3 .... but I also remember some mention of 9.2 now working.

Wow...thats AWESOME Thank you so much for the reply. Am totally happy with Codebreaker 9.2 working. Now I can go ahead with the purchase

Say, can we use Day1 files with the slim ps2 ?? Am gonna get a premodded slim PS2 with the Crystal Chip already installed, so I "presume" my slim ps2 would be the latest version.

About the sig, it has been a VERY LONG TIME since I logged in here at ps2newz and haven't really updated my sig. Currently, am using the Cracked Version of Codebreaker v9.2, which works flawlessly with my Magic V 50k but as I said the lens of that PS2 is getting weaker and weaker and won't read discs burned by me anymore but plays HK silvers just fine, which actually are malaysian pressed DVDs

Anyways, thank a LOT for the reply. Now am sure CC can use Codebreaker for cheating purpose. Am gonna go ahead and get it pronto

Thanx for the link. Read it but its kinda dead since the last post made was in early February. Anyways, I really don't think I have any choice here but to go with the Crystal Modchip (coz of the reason stated above and of course fear of fakes :P)

Thank you spedmetal for all the help. Really appreciate it. I'll get the Crystal Modchip and will try to boot the Cracked v9.2 that I have. Even I know there are various cracked v9.2s available on the internet and not all of them are genuine, but the cracked one that I have is the genuine one and works perfectly fine on my modchip where the previous versions of codebreaker failed to load.

Once I get my premod, will check whether it works or not and will post in that thread Also hoping the Crystal Team makes the codebreaker to work in their latest update No. 35
