Is it possible to recover from a bad firmware flash? Suppose anything goes wrong. Can I delete the bootmanager off my MC? I currently have r19 hacked and I want to upgrade to R24.

You can delete the BM with the MC Manager of the latest Firmware CDs since version20.
The chip automatically recovers from a bad firmware if anything went wrong, so you can install a new one without problems, anytime you want.
If you upgrade from v19, be sure to delete the old BootManager before installing the new one.

As Jones23 said, the CC will automatically detect bad firmware flashes based on an internal checksum. However, in the event that the checksum passes but the firmware is still corrupted you can force recovery mode by pressing Reset 3 times.
