I recently installed a CC 2.0 into a V15 system, however for some strange reason DVD movies absolutely don't work. Using hacked firmware v29 and all games boot perfectly with BM, but if I run DVDs with the Sony browser the system halts after it tries to load the disc.

    completely stumped on this one...

    any ideas?

I have another thread running about this "issue" I can share what I have discovered so far.

    1) Is it not auto playing "burned" movies? That it, does it auto play originals fine but not the burned ones?

    2) I see that you have BM installed. When you insert a movie, the icon in the upper left corner should change to indicate what the BM thinks it is. If it thinks it is a movie, a dvd icon will appear with a film strip sticking out of it. If you see that icon, the movie should auto play. If you see just a generic dvd icon, that movie will not auto boot.

    3) the BM looks for a folder on the disc named VIDEO_TS. Note that it is in all caps. You should be able to check if perhaps your folder is not named correctly.

    4) As far as I can the problem I have is in the way my movie was burned, not the firmware. I have not completed my analysis of this yet.

    5) The user's on this forum that have immense knowledge will probably suggest that you purchase a cheapie dvd player to play your movies on. This is what I am going to do. The laser on your PS2 is too precious to waste on playing movies.

    Hope that helps.

It doesn't play any DVDs. Burned ones or original. The problem is, it's detecting properly but as soon as it starts booting, I'm getting a black screen. I have also tried the Sony Browser as well.

Yes, I stated before that BM is installed correctly on this chip and games were able to play correctly.

Both of these are not relevant to my situation. As I have not burned these DVDs myself(which include the originals)and they work on other PS2s with the Crystal installed as well as other players or systems.

Not that I don't disagree with you. Infact, I would suggest the same. However, this is a system install service that I'm providing. If the client chooses to use it as a DVD player, I think he should have the right to and have it working properly. Correct?

There is reason to believe this could be firmware related. I might suggest the client to update the bootmanager as well as the firmware.

I am having the same problem. I installed CC2.0 onto my PS2 v12 today. I was able to boot up and install the boot manager (hacked 34). I can boot regular game, backup games, and I can run many of the programs from the mega pack off of my usb flash drive. What I cannot do is play DVD movies. I am testing it using original DVDs, not backup DVDs. I have a stand alone DVD player, so playing movies off the PS2 is not a priority, however one of my games has DVD movie extras the also do not work (Stuntman, original disc, not a backup). The game works, but when it tries to play the movie it just goes back to the game menu. Other games might have this same feature, so I want to get the DVD movie part working.

The movie DVD is detected (movie icon appears in top left of screen) and auto runs, the screen just turns black and nothing happens. I did a continuity test of all of the DVD wires to the modchip by probing the big chip above where the DVD wires go. I also checked to make sure none of my wires were shorting with each other. I also installed neofix XIV (DVD diode protection).

Noob question: How do you disable the modchip?

There seems to be a problem with BM loading DVD movies on some consoles. I believe I've resolved this issue now and it should be fixed in Release 35.

I would recommend you boot the disc in Minimal Mode(See the Boot Media menu) for now.

I pressed the reset button six times to put the CC chip to sleep. When the PS2 v12 started, the DVD movie started right up. I'm glad I don't have to open up my PS2 again just to redo the wiring. Thanks for the tip. Sorry, didn't mean to threadjack this thread with my DVD issue, but it seemed to be the same problem.

I can understand your guys point and concerns with playing DVD movies with your PS2's .... really I can. But personally I will never use my PS2's or PSTwo's as a DVD movie player.

I've never owned a stand-alone DVD player, myself. I find PS2 to be perfectly adequate.
